The 2006 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA 2006) will be held in Orlando, Florida (Lake Buena Vista) from May 15 to May 19, 2006. The conference theme is “Humanitarian Robotics,” reflecting the strong potential of robotic technology in areas such as demining, search/rescue missions, homeland security, humanoid robots, personal and service robots, etc. Papers from academic and industrial communities and government agencies are solicited in all areas of robotics and automation. For general and technical program inquiries about the conference, please contact the conference General Chairs, Norman Caplan (nscaplan@comcast.net) and Dr. George Lee (csglee@purdue.edu), and the Program Chair, Dr. Nikos Papanikolopoulos (admin@icra2006.org), respectively.

Contributed Papers/Posters: All papers must be submitted electronically in PDF format by September 21, 2005. The review will be double-blind and the papers themselves should contain no information that helps identify the authors. The maximum number of pages is limited to six, including figures. A maximum of 2 additional pages will be permitted at an extra page charge of US$200 per page. We will also accept three-page posters (in PDF format). Detailed instructions for paper/poster submission and format can be found on the conference web site (http://www.icra2006.org).

Invited Sessions: Invited sessions are to provide a forum for focused discussions on new topics, or innovative applications of established approaches. An invited session consists of four papers that must be electronically submitted for review using the same procedure for contributed papers. A proposal must include: (1) Title, (2) Organizers, (3) Brief Statement of Purpose for the session, and (4) A List of Authors and Paper Titles with paper IDs that will be given at the electronic submission. The invited/special session organizers must submit proposals to the Invited and Special Sessions Chair (wes@ncsu.edu) by September 21, 2005.

Video Submissions: Exciting videos of 1.5-3 minutes are sought for the conference’s video proceedings. Videos should be accompanied by an extended abstract and submitted by following the guidelines available on the conference web site. The submission deadline is September 21, 2005.

Tutorial & Workshop Proposals: Proposals for half-day or full-day tutorials and workshops must be submitted to the Tutorials/Workshops Chair. Proposals that address topics related to the conference theme as well as robotics and automation in general are welcome. Proposals must include (1) Title, (2) Organizers, (3) Objectives and Topics, (4) Intended Audience, and (5) List of Speakers. Proposals must be submitted to the Tutorials/Workshops Chair by September 21, 2005.

Exhibitions: There will be an exhibition site at the conference. More information for exhibitors will be available on the conference web site.

Best Student Paper Award: A $1,000 award will be given to the best student paper. The student should be a member of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, the key developer of the ideas in the paper, and has done the work as part of an academic degree program. The student’s advisor should send a nominating letter to the Program Chair at the time of submission.
